Hey guys I wanted to answer this question which many music producers come across, to be quite honest this is something I used to struggle with when I started making music and producing beat compositions.
I wanted to give few recommendations on how to overcome this situation when it comes to composing unique melodies within FL studio.
Here are my main recommendations to overcoming such situation:
1. Don't think too hard on the melody.
Thinking too hard and how to make a unique melody will not only dim your motivation, it can also lead to the melody sounding very bad, it's best to relax, and enjoy this process.
Personally, I find that listening to similar songs within the genre I am trying to produce, for around 10–20 minutes before I start composing my melodies helps dramatically, with inspiration and motivation.
2. Don't overcomplicate the melody.
This is something I have learned over the years, making complex and huge melodies with many patterns will in most cases make the final beat composition complex and hard for artist singers and rappers to write music to.
Keeping simple chords and simple melody build-ups can have the opposite effect.
Keep this in mind, guys, that most music in the music industry which has made it to the top 10, contains few chords and few melodies.
In my personal opinion, keeping it simple is better.
Also, that's if you're producing beats for musical artist. If you're producing melody score for TV/Film or game sound design, it's usually required to make some unique and complex melodies.
3. Learn about music theory and chords
Most music composers and music producers don't have full knowledge on music theory, Personally, I find that after learning the basics on music theory after I started with music production, it has helped me understand on which keyboard key-notes worked together and which didn't.
This can take time, but I can now compose music by the ear, reproduce sounds and melodies as I require. I strongly believe that music theory, rhythm, scales and chords has helped me understand music composition and production a lot more.
In my personal opinion, learning what scales work together can improve the music production experience. Also saying that, some of the world's most popular music composers had no knowledge of scales, rhythm and keys, they used their creativity to compose some unique compositions.
Everyone is different, so it all depends on the individual composer/producer.
Personally, these are the 3 most crucial recommendations which I can give to all beat makers, music producers and composers who are starting off inside FL Studio.
