Hey guys it's PAV here, I wanted to share my top BPM-Tempo when producing standard style hip-hop beats, without extruding the drum-pattern playlist (double-tempo).

I have shared my tempo list below, make sure to check it out.

Hip-hop bpm tempo list

As you can see above, 87BPM has been highlighted as the most common tempo when it comes to making hip-hop beats. Personally, I like to use 90BPM when creating those classic hip hop 90s and Dr. Dre style hip hop beats.

Also, most modern hip-hop and rap music producers like to work in double-time, which means the drum pattern is stretched out, creating more space for drum samples and drum inputs.

If you're going to use double time during your music production session, check out my recommended list of hip-hop and rap tempos shown below.

hip hop bpm tempo list double time
As you can see above, 140BPM seems to be my most favourite BPM when making hip hop beats, 138 and 131BPM I have used during my hip-hop studio music production sessions quite often.

The 117 and 119BPM could be used for slower style of hip hop beats such as "Lithe" the rap artist type of beats.

129BPM or 131BPM is also a very common style of tempo for drake and most modern hip-hop beats.

The tempo depends on the style of beat production, when it comes to rap and hip-hop there is a diversity of different style of hip hop beats, making this a very diverse yet creative genre to produce.

In my opinion, if I was going to produce modern hip hop beats as of today or in the near future, I would work in double time tempo and I would personably use;
  • 117BPM for slower hip hop style of beats.
  • 131BPM for drake style of hip hop of beats.
  • 129BPM for story telling rap beats.
  • 138, 139 or 140BPM for most generic hip hop beats.

I also wanted to outline that 137BPM is not listed on my guide shown above, but this BPM-Tempo I have also used on some of my generic hip-hop and rap beats in the past.

Of course these are just my personal recommendations, there is no right or wrong, but this is my style of BPM-Tempo guide which I tend to follow when I produce hip-hop and rap beats inside FL Studio.

I hope my tempo guide when it comes to making hip-hop and rap beats will help you guys out, if you have any questions, make sure to drop them below, and I will do my best to get back to you soon as possible.
